(Washington D.C.) – The National Fish Habitat Partnership launched a redesigned website (FISHHABITAT.ORG) in September to make the National Fish Habitat Action Plans and other online resources more accessible, and to help us better inform the American people about the collaborative landscape conservation work being done to protect, restore, and enhance aquatic habitat across the nation. The new design offers a more user-friendly format and convenient page navigability, along with enhanced mapping features. The new interactive map allows users to view details about individual projects and regional summaries of NFHP accomplishments. Users can also explore areas of interest by filtering NFHP data by project year, type, location, and species focus.
The site was specifically designed to streamline access to information about the 20 regional Fish Habitat Partnerships that form the hub of our work to conserve fish habitat nationwide. Information on previous national fish habitat assessments, historical program documents, and information on the activities of the National Fish Habitat Board are also included along with a more convenient sign-up feature for our monthly newsletter. The website contains links to the website for Beyond the Pond, the 501c3 non-profit organization established to support NFHP, as well as individual donation pages for each of the 20 Fish Habitat Partnerships.
Since 2006, NFHP has implemented over 1,500 conservation projects in all 50 states, generating over $380 million in leveraged funding. NFHP conservation projects have reconnected more than 9,800 miles of rivers and streams while conserving over 70,000 acres of river, lake, riparian, upland, estuary, and wetland habitat.
National Fish Habitat Partnership Launches New Projects and Accomplishments Dashboard
The National Fish Habitat Partnership (NFHP) also just launched a new, publicly accessible Projects and Accomplishments Dashboard highlighting fish habitat projects funded and supported by NFHP partners.
The Dashboard allows users to explore project locations via an interactive map. Users can view details about individual projects and summaries of NFHP accomplishments using various filters such as project year, location (e.g., state, congressional district), and focus (e.g., species or habitats). Project types include on-the-ground habitat restoration, habitat and species assessments, and partner coordination - highlighting the array of efforts NFHP employs to protect, restore, and enhance fish habitats.
“The data shared in the Projects and Accomplishments Dashboard are extremely important for telling our story of protecting, restoring, and enhancing fish habitats across the U.S.,” said Robert Boyles, Chair of the National Fish Habitat Board. “We are excited to release this Dashboard to the public in an effort to increase awareness of NFHP fish habitat conservation projects that have been implemented in every state. The hundreds of projects included in this Dashboard are a testament to the value of teamwork among many conservation partners that is fundamental to who NFHP is and how we accomplish everything we do.”
The Dashboard also highlights the transformational landscape-scale accomplishments of NFHP and its partners, including conserving over 8,500 miles of river and coastal habitat, and nearly 95,000 acres of habitat while collaborating with over 1,600 organizations across the United States. Since 2006, NFHP conservation projects have generated over $380 million in leveraged funding for a total of $61 million in support of fish habitat conservation.
