Anglers, get those favorite bass lures ready.
Access to one of Florida's most highly regarded fishing holes will open Aug. 10 to another group of fishers — powerboaters.
Headwaters Lake in Fellsmere, located along the county line between Indian River and Brevard, has already developed a reputation as one of the state's great bass fisheries. However, for the past several years it was only accessible to anglers who were aboard paddlecraft such as kayaks, canoes and standup paddleboards.
Construction on a launch ramp in the northeastern corner of the lake began Jan. 7 and was expected to have been completed by the end of May. Anglers were eager and hopeful they could begin casting from their outboard-powered bass boats before Memorial Day weekend.
